Our Cottage Before and After

If I could change anything about our house it would be to give it an ocean view.
And that's about it.
I absolutely adore our little cottage, it's so perfect for our little family.
It was built in 1924 so it is filled with lots of old charm.
Recently I have made a few changes to the exterior of the house and wanted to share them with you today.

Here is what the house looked like before:
It had dark green trim around all of the windows. I knew by painting the trim white it would brighten up the house.  So I scraped off all of the chipping paint, patched it, sanded it, and then painted it with a couple of coats of exterior white paint.
The new white paint made such a big difference. It gave the house a fresh look.

And then as you all probably know by now, I also painted the front door.
The color is called, Night Scape by Valspar.
The blue really pops against the light house. It is such a happy color, it makes me smile every time I see it.
Hanging next to the front door is the driftwood garland I made and blogged about Here over at City Farmhouse.
I think the house now looks like the perfect little beach cottage......but without the beach.

A few things left to do is get some wood blinds for the windows, add more landscaping, and maybe even extend the front porch.

Thanks for stopping by today.

  2. Emily,
You have a beautiful sense of style. I especially admire that you are happy and content with your home. So many bloggers dream of bigger and more. Your white trim is bright and fresh. I raided your pin board and found some amazing inspiration there also. Thanks for sharing!
